I lost fifteen years to gambling.
Not to one bad night — to fifteen years of ordinary mornings where I told everyone I was fine, and then did the maths in my head all day. The money was not the worst of it. The worst of it was the lying, and the shame I woke up with.
What I needed was not more advice. It was somewhere to put it down. So I wrote this.
About this journal
- 120 undated pages in five parts — The Spiral, The Awakening, The Repair, The Stability, The Light. It moves in the order recovery actually happens.
- The pages you will use most — a trigger map, a financial reset, a plan for the first ninety seconds of an urge, and a letter to your past self.
- Undated, so nothing expires. Start on any day. You cannot fall behind.
- Instant PDF, A4 and US Letter in one download. Print it at home or a print shop, as often as you like, forever.
- Written from experience, not a template. Made by one person in the UK who has been where you are standing.
The five parts
- Part One · The Spiral — where it actually got to, written down once, honestly.
- Part Two · The Awakening — the day it stopped being deniable.
- Part Three · The Repair — money, people, apologies, triggers, trust.
- Part Four · The Stability — the ordinary maintenance nobody talks about.
- Part Five · The Light — purpose, and the life you are choosing instead.
Closing with a resources page.
Pages you will use most
- The trigger map — the places, people and feelings, each paired with what you will do instead.
- The financial reset — total lost, owed to people, owed to lenders, and the first repayment.
- A letter to my past self — the page most people leave until last.
- Self-exclusion and blocks, status check — go through it properly, one line at a time.
- My spending, one week — every pound for seven days, to find out what is true.
- Weekly check-ins — the only pages that look backwards on purpose.
- The paperwork I have been avoiding — the envelopes, the portals, the calls, and a tick for each.
- A letter to open in a year — the last page of the book.
Who this is for
Anyone who has decided that enough is enough. Whether you are on day one or day one hundred, it is a structure for the day and a private place to be honest. Write badly in it — spelling and tidiness do not matter, and the only wrong answer is the polite one.
Start reading before you buy
- How to stop gambling: the first seven days — blocking access, the real number, and why week two feels worse than week one.
- How to make a gambling trigger map — the four-column method, and what to do about the triggers you cannot avoid.
- The first ninety seconds of an urge — writing the plan in advance, for the only part that matters.
- How to tell someone you have a gambling problem — how to open, what not to say, and the one honest number.
Or take the trigger map free — four printable pages, no card needed.
What happens when you buy
The download link appears on the confirmation screen the moment you check out, and arrives by email as well. There is nothing to wait for and nothing to post. If the link ever stops working, email me and I will send the file directly — it is one person reading that inbox, not a support queue.
